Grants supporting the Orthoptera Species File

The Orthopterists' Society in cooperation with the Illinois Natural History Survey has provided funding for work in support of the Orthoptera Species File.  Members of the Orthopterists' Society are invited to apply.  Applications should be sent to David Eades.

Grants are available in two categories:

• The first category pays travel expenses to come to Champaign, Illinois, USA for training in editing the Orthoptera Species File or other Species File within Polyneoptera.  Time in Champaign would typically be one week unless reasons can be given for a longer or shorter period.  Applications may be submitted at any time.

• The second category provides for a project as defined by the applicant.  The project must involve benefit to the Orthoptera Species File or to a Species File for another group within Polyneoptera.  The usual benefit is the addition of images or other data in the database.  Projects may be proposed for periods of one to three years.

Funding available for 2013 will be announced in August 2012.  The number of grants will depend on the applications received.  Applications must be received by December 15, 2012.  The committee will complete its consideration and announce the results by January 15, 2013.
